Myofascial release (MFR) can enable increased mobility, reduction of pain, improved circulation and restores normal postural and movement patterns. The fascia can be compared to the cling wrap of the body. This thin, but incredibly strong, connective tissue holds together muscles, bones, and organs, all the way down to the cellular level giving our bodies support and protection. With injuries, car accidents, stress, poor posture, or inflammation, the fascia can tighten creating restrictions.
The John Barnes® MFR technique uses gentle, sustained pressure to stretch and release fascial dysfunction allowing more space for proper muscle movement and increased blood and lymph flow to an area. The therapist will test the movement of the fascial in relation to the underlying tissues to find restrictive patterns. Using hands, knuckles, or elbows, the therapist will find the direction and depth of the restrictions to determine how to best approach the proper release.
